There is a familiar reason why you chose to date this guy.

Clearly, you are at odds with your parents in regard to who you tend to be attracted to.

Sometimes this happens because a girl wants to rebel against her parents for how strict or rigid they are.

As a result, you end up repeatedly getting into relationships with men who you know your parents wouldn’t approve of.

It was a boost to your sense of empowerment to date previous boyfriends that you knew your parents wouldn’t approve of.

You got a kick out of doing something rebellious or unorthodox.

Those guys never got further than surface-level thrills.

This boyfriend has.

You genuinely love him and see a future with him.

This has you scared.

All of a sudden, it’s no longer about the rebelliousness and empowerment of dating someone you know your parents wouldn’t approve of.

You didn’t care all that much about those previous boyfriends.

They were just a tool to feel empowered and rebellious.

That is not the case with this guy, as you sincerely care about him.

All of a sudden, your parents’ approval of this guy means more than anything to you.

Being that this is a guy you see a real future with, it has gotten real, and you are scared.

All of a sudden there are stakes.

Stakes that never existed in the previous boyfriends you dated.

You had little to lose with those boyfriends.

But, with this boyfriend, it is so different.

For the first time, you are considering the prospect of having to choose between two entities you care about.

That of your parents and that of your boyfriend.

You have been playing with fire in choosing previous boyfriends you knew that your parents would not approve of, and now, you are feeling the burn.

If your boyfriend is the embodiment of what they don’t want in a boyfriend for their daughter, it is asking a lot to change their viewpoint, especially as they have gotten older and more stuck in their ways.

What you should do is ask yourself why you think this particular boyfriend is different from the previous ones who didn’t mean all that much to you.

It’s possible that whatever it is could be persuasive enough to convince your parents to give him a chance.

Is he significantly more ambitious, spiritual, family-oriented, intelligent, community-oriented, or sensitive?

Figure out what his selling points are that differ from the previous boyfriends you dated.

These are the areas you can sell your parents on.

There are still no guarantees that your parents will be sold on these qualities.

Nevertheless, you have put yourself in this position.

All you can really hope for is that whatever separates this particular boyfriend from the ones you have dated in the past is enough to convince them to be accepting of him.
