When he asked for your Instagram, he was excited in the moment and looking forward to continuing to get to know you through Instagram.
Once you gave him your Instagram and accepted his follow request, everything changed.
He now had access to your Instagram feed posts and reels, stories and highlights, followers and following lists, etc.
With this kind of access, he had an opportunity to get a more substantial idea of who you were.
Something he saw on your Instagram was contradictory to what he knew of you prior to following you.
As a consequence, he was no longer interested in talking to you.
It probably had something to do with your lifestyle, interests, viewpoints, associations, or physical appearance.
For example, if you matched with this guy on a dating app using outdated photos or photos that are unrealistically flattering, he was disappointed in the photos he saw of you on your Instagram account.
Given that these would be more wide-ranging and grounded, he got to see you in a light that wasn’t representative of the photos you used on the dating app.
As a result, he chose not to message you.
So, there are several reasons a guy who asks for your Instagram would choose not to message you.
At the heart of it is that there was a contradiction in what he saw on your Instagram with what he knew of you before following your account.
It’s critical that who you present yourself to be in real life, on a dating app, etc., correlates with who you present yourself to be on your Instagram.
If you meet a guy at a bar or a nightclub and give him an impression of you that contradicts what he sees after following you on Instagram, the guy will pick up on this and be turned off.
Whether it be in your physical appearance, personality, lifestyle, background, etc., he discovered a contradiction or several that were enough of a turn-off that he chose not to message you.
For instance, if you gave him the impression while you were talking to him at a bar, nightclub, or social venue as someone who loves the outdoors, only for him to discover on Instagram that you barely do outdoor activities or abhor them, this can be enough to turn him off to such an extent that he chooses not to message you.
He believes he was misled.
Always be true to who you are.
Who you present yourself to be to a guy in a bar, nightclub, party, classroom, workplace, gym, or on a dating app should correlate with who you present yourself to be on Instagram.
This is how you avoid situations like this.
A guy that asks for your Instagram isn’t solely interested in messaging you through social media.
He is also intent on getting more information about who you are as a person.
Should there be contradictions in what he finds on social media to the impression you initially gave him of yourself, he is likely to feel like he was misled, and this discourages him from messaging you.
