Men won’t approach and speak to women with a man next to them.

Men who see that the man that is next to you is freely stopping to talk to various girls and flirt with them as he is walking with you, are fairly quick to surmise that he isn’t your boyfriend.
No girlfriend with any self-respect is letting her boyfriend walk straight-up to multiple women and flirt with them in her presence.
For men to pick up on this, they have to observe you as you walk about with this guy for a while.
After seeing him walk up to multiple girls to instigate a conversation, these men conclude that he must be a platonic male friend of yours, and it is safe to approach and speak to you.
Lastly, when there is a wide age disparity with the man that is next to you, most men assume that the man is an older male relative such as a dad or uncle.
That being said, they do know that romantic relationships where there is a wide age disparity do exist, so they wait to pick up on further signs that he is an older male relative of yours.
Once they overhear him talking to you, using words such as “Your mom,” “Your brother,” “Your sister,” in a few of his sentences, they know for certain that he is an older male relative of yours.
It still requires a very confident guy to make an approach when there is an older male relative at your side.
