Ex told me he loves me but repeatedly goes very long periods without contact?

Hi there,
So my ex contacted me a few months back telling me he wanted me to come visit him/him come visit me (we live 6 hours apart) and that he still loved me. So we went on talking via text message and he told me he wanted me to be his forever multiple times and a bunch of other really sweet things. He even went as far as asking me to come live with him though I told him I thought we should be in a relationship for awhile before taking that step. He agreed with me and said either way he needs me in his life. However, he keeps going long periods, like 3 or more days without texting me. We haven’t spoken on the phone yet and this is the third time he’s done this. One of the times his reason was he ran out of cell phone minutes. But that was recently so that can’t be the reason this time. At this moment I haven’t heard from him for about 5 days in total, not including the one message he sent 2 days ago asking how I was doing and that he had just turned his phone on but he didn’t say anything else after that. and that was 2 days ago now. He is really confusing me so I was wondering if you would have any insight on this or any advice to give me.

To me this doesn’t add up… in my opinion if he really wants you, he will be making the effort to message you and not leaving you hanging for long periods of time.

I would advise you too way up the pros and cons and his behaviour then make a decision based on that.
If this was a situation happening to me, I wouldn’t waste my time and move on. He should be respectful and make effort. Not leaving it all to you

I think he is using you just so you can give him attention he seeks, validation
I don’t think he likes you or is into you you’re just a booty call sorry for being blunt but is better to see it as is than believe in something fake
